Better creator monetization is one of the big opportunities for blockchain connected streaming applications, as new mechanics like tokens, NFTs, and composability with other on chain protocols offer endless grounds for experimentation that are not possible in traditional apps. Today we’re highlighting one such interesting experiment going on in the Livepeer ecosystem, run by the decentralized streaming application Xeenon.

Starting today, creators who stream on Xeenon will be paid to stream, without having to rely on advertising or direct user payments. The funding for this will derive not from the Xeenon team’s pockets, but via the ETH that Xeenon generates from running a node on the Livepeer network.

From the earliest days of building, Xeenon has prioritized creating an open and sustainable platform via leveraging decentralized infrastructure, building openly with their community, and experimenting with these economic flows that create unified incentives between the users and operators of their application. This started with inviting LPT holders to stake towards their node and utilizing fee + reward cuts to share in the economics. It continues with this fee share mechanic incentivizing streamers. Ultimately the goal is a user owned and self perpetuating ecosystem that can fund both the infrastructure required to run a streaming platform, and sustainable user economics for both streamers and viewers. Read more about their announcement here.

Integrating back end infrastructure rewards is one such exciting experiment, and at Livepeer we’re also interested in seeing experiments where content DAOs coordinate to fund infrastructure, streaming payments to creators, and NFT based monetization mechanisms. Let us know what you’re launching in the #developer-lounge channel in the Livepeer Discord, and we’ll be sure to showcase the results.
